Post-It Note Style Notes Pinned to Desktop
I think many people would appreciate the feature allowing a specific note to be pinned to the desktop so it is all the time in front of our eyes until the task on the note is completed. If a note gets pinned it might need to change the visual style so it does not take up too much of the desktop real estate - smaller font size, may be plain text, no buttons.

I’m actually working on redesigning the note window for the next version—one of my goals is to make it much more compact and note-like, and I will take your suggestions into consideration.

I’m working on implementing “alerts” for notes that will allow you to set a date and time that a note will alert you on. Simple, but good for reminders, etc.

Custom note types
Such as the ability to define your own colored categories (like help notes).

I am considering a much more extensible architecture for a future version (post 2.0) that will treat tags as classes, allowing for tags to affect note properties and better filtering so you can view just notes of a certain class.

Rich text formatting (bold, italics, etc)
This is something I've been tossing around. I'd like to implement rich text support into notes, but don't want it to detract from the simplicity of a text-only environment. Is formatted text important to you?

Big news: this should be in the next version, and it’s gonna be a big release!

I’ve come up with what I consider a good model for this: notes can be locked (and encrypted) individually, but all notes will be locked with the application password to keep things simple and avoid having notes that you can’t remember the password for.
When locked, the title of a note will still be visible, allowing for notes to be identified when locked, so don’t add any sensitive data to the title. The body will actually be encrypted for storage so no sensitive data will be stored in plain text even in the database.
You will have to enter your password before opening any locked note, or unlocking it. You won’t have to unlock a note to open it, and it will remain locked for the next time you open it.
Locked notes can’t be deleted or modified in any significant manner.
Locked notes will still be considered in search… more

Improve performance
The first release had a natural focus on getting all the necessary features implemented and working properly, but performance and optimization is important too, so we'll also be spending some time getting things much snappier for future releases.

This is a good idea. It’s currently not hard to do, actually, if you just hit the “print screen” key on your keyboard with OrangeNote running, you should see the screencap show up in your clipboard history. However, having a specific command (with a customizable keystroke) would be handy. I’ll look into this.

Auto-detected hyperlinks are definitely planned for the near future, allowing you to use OrangeNote as a kind of bookmarks manager as well, or to just make it easy to remember a link you want to check out.

have Tablet PC Support - So you can write ink
This is the primary bonus of OneNote. Ink recognition is not necessary.

If I ever get a tablet or some way of testing this it could see its way into a future version. Currently it doesn’t appear to be something people are terribly interested in.
